Saturday, March 11th marked a big day for rugby in New Orleans. Three middle school teams consisting of the New Orleans Club, Northshore Lions, and Bayou Hurricanes met at Ozone Park in Covington, LA for their first ever contact matches. Teams played rugby sevens and featured players in grades 6-8. Coaches and spectators alike were blown away by the skill and tenacity shown by all players on the pitch.
While this past Saturday was the first set of contact matches, this was the fourth match day for middle school this season. The newly formed league will continue to mix touch, flag, and contact play to ensure all players are developing skills, fitness, and love for the game. All students in grades 6-8 are welcome and encouraged to join rugby. Please contact Louisiana Rugby through our Facebook page or our website, www.louisianarugby.org, to learn more!
